After the cold weather is gone and the days get warmer, I make it a point to explore nature.  These are colorful spring activities for kids to teach them to appreciate nature …

2.    Go On A Nature Hike

Hiking and backpacking are great activities for cooler weather. Hiking is an outdoor sport that requires no equipment. It’s one of the least expensive sports you can engage in.

3.  Learn To Bike

Biking is a fun sport for people of all ages. It is a great way to incorporate exercise into your life while having a great time doing it. Family and friends can bike together, at parks, on bike trails, or almost any place that they choose.

4.    Start Gardening

One such nature-loving activity that children could easily get their hands on is gardening.  Kids today often don’t realize how fun and rewarding gardening can be.

5.     Make and Fly Kites

It may seem so simple but there is so much joy in flying a kite. One it would be a good day spent outdoors with the children with the wind blowing in their hair. Surely that would provide enough positivity for anybody! Two, before going kite flying, parents can make kite-making into an activity for the kids. Let them be as creative as they want to be.

6.  Grow A Seedling

Watching a seed grow into a tree is just as wondrous as the conception to birth and growth of a child. In time, kids will learn to love their plants and appreciate the life in them.

Gardening could actually help simulate how life should be treated — it should be with care. Those necessities could easily correspond to human necessities, i.e., water, shelter, air, food. By simply weeding out, one could educate how bad influences should be avoided to be able to live life smoothly.

7       Plan A Healthy Meal

Snacks such as cookies, candy or soft drinks are packed with refined sugar.

With your kid’s help, you can decide on a meal that everyone can participate in preparing. Perhaps you’ll want to try something totally new, or maybe the family would rather go with an old favorite, but the point is to get everyone involved.

8    Sift Through Photographs

Your kids can take some time to reminisce over some photos. If you have a collection of photographs from old film cameras, maybe you can make a project out of it and scan them so they’re in a digital format. Take it one step further and start a digital scrapbook for your family.

9.   Paint A Watercolor Landscape

If your child wants to learn how to paint great landscapes, then you should spend time near the area that inspires you to paint in the first place. Only then your little artist will really understand how to transfer an artistic vision onto a canvas.

One of the biggest challenges that beginners face is the ability to really connect with the creativity that is inside of them. It’s difficult in the beginning to just let go and paint from your heart and soul.

10.   Play Educational Games

Wait – aren’t video games what you want to avoid? Not if they’re educational! Take the opportunity to sneak in some appropriate video games for your kids. And when used with discretion, studies have shown that playing video games can actually improve skills like decision-making and hand-eye coordination.

There are all sorts of video games available these days with learning in mind, and they are usually a lot of fun as well. You can look for games that are designed to improve science, math, and critical thinking skills.

In addition to these great activities that are a little off the beaten path there are many opportunities for your children to explore the arts by watching the wonderful musicals that are available in many theatres around town.

18   Relax and Read For Fun

One of the best ways to get learning in every day is to read fun and interesting books. These are not books that are “assigned” or required, but let your kids choose some books on their own. Or you could introduce a book without making it a “have to.”

Another thing you can do if you have young children is read aloud. Choose books to read together. The key here is to let your kids decide what they want to read and, as long as you approve, let them read whatever they want, even if it’s a magazine or comic book. The point is to get them reading!
