2.     Make Homemade Pizza

What kid doesn’t like homemade pizza? All you need is dough, toppings, sauce, and an oven to have your very own family pizzeria!

When it is movie night, we love to make our own pizza. Everyone gets enough dough for a personal-sized pizza, and they can top it however they want.  Then, I just bake them, and everyone enjoys it!

This makes personal pizzas truly personal and makes for a great bonding time with food and fun!

3.   Bake A Sweet Treat

Sweet treats on a rainy day is always fun for the whole family. Let everyone choose something they want to bake together as a family. It could be cookies, cake pops, muffins, a pastry—anything yummy and bake-able!

Then, you all work together as a family to get the ingredients and make something super delicious treat. If you have a big family, you can even do a different baking project every other day until everyone has had a chance to make their favorites!

4.   Have An Indoor Picnic

Picnics are always a lot of fun and much more relaxing than a formal meal at a table. Kids just love to have an area to spread out and be free. Picnics can be indoor or outdoor. You just need a spot where you can lay out a blanket and not worry that the kids will knock something over. Just pack up some food, drinks, snacks, and blankets. Then set up a nice little picnic spot in your house!

5.   Make Music

Music can make any child smile and every child I know secretly wants to play a musical instrument. You can buy a simple instrument for your child, such as tambourines and a recorder. Or you can make a simple one from items that you have at home, such as this paper tambourine or box drums. To get their musical juices flowing, you can encourage your kids to make a tune to the beat of their favorite song.

6.   Solve A Maze

Mazes are an excellent tool that help them learn to make marks that are both curvy and straight. Mazes are such an easy and fun after school activity. Children like to solve mazes because they get immediate visual feedback when they get closer to the end point. Some of you might be thinking, “Well, memorizing a maze is pretty useless for kids.” However, memorizing mazes actually helps children identify and visualize patterns which will be crucial in school and life.

7.   Build A Family Recipe Scrapbook

If you have kids, then you know they’re already experts at technology. If they don’t sit at a desk to do schoolwork – it’s all about laptops and handheld devices. Why not let your kids make a family recipe scrapbook?

Some kids like to cut out pictures, others like to write recipes, and others like to draw pictures. My son liked to write his recipes. We put them in plastic sheet protectors and put them into a recipe binder.

8.   Make A Family Collage

This fun activity is for children of all ages. Kids love to make a collage of favorite family vacations. The most interesting collages are those that have photos of different sizes overlapping each other. Buy a sheet of poster board and collect all the family photos that have been sitting in boxes and drawers for years collecting dust. Once your child has decided on a favorite arrangement, glue the photos to the poster board. Voila! An instant family heirloom!

9.  Write A Story Journal

Story journals are fun for kids to make. Children have a way of seeing the world through a different lens. And they can capture them in a story journal. With a story journal, you can help your child record what's happening in his day .  You can also write a story together and bind together into a homemade book. They can be made out of any kind of paper or notebook, but I've found that spiral notebooks are the best because they are portable and easy to use.

10.  Film The Family For A Day

If you have an active family, then you should have a way for your kids to capture those special memories. When you are busy, your kids can use their phones or an old camcorder to document a whole day with your family. Then you can watch it back and even edit it into a fun family movie! As the years go by, it will be fun to look back and remember what a fun day you had.

11.  Assemble A Paper Family Quilt

Have you ever thought about how wonderful it would be to make a special family quilt? You will need 12 pieces of construction paper, yarn, a single hole puncher, crayons, and anything else to make them unique. The construction paper pieces are your quilt blocks.. Once completed, your child can decorate and punch holes along the edge. Then use the yarn to tie your quilt blocks together. This would make a wonderful gift for the grandparents.

12.    Make A Model Car Or Boat

Model cars, boats, and airplanes have always been popular rainy day activities.  If your child is interested in making models, it can be very exciting. But model car kits can be very complicated and require a great deal of precision.  In the beginning, it can be very exciting, but the energy will disappear if it takes too long.  Trust me … get the easiest kit that he is willing to make and then patiently help him as much as needed.

13.  Cross Stitch A Pillow

Cross-stitching is a fun way to pass the time and relax. Whether you decide to purchase a cross-stitching kit or buy the supplies separately, it is easy to get started.

Your child can create many different shirts, pillows or bed throws with just a touch of imagination.

Many craft stores carry both premade kits and separate supplies. Premade kits come in handy because they provide the thread, canvas, and needle as well as step-by-step instructions.

14.   Make Some Jewelry

When it comes to jewelry, there are so many things that your kids can do with rhinestones and glitter. If you’ve ever walked into a bead store, it’s an amazing experience.  There are so many jewelry to create and they add sparkle to anything.

15.  Decoupage A Box

Decoupage is a craft that is easy enough for any child to make. Depending on the age and ability of your child, she can make elaborate plates and boxes. Once they have been started on the basic process of decoupage, most children can be left to do projects alone. So long as you are available for advice, you can sit back and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

16.  Make Life-Sized Drawings

Kids grow up so quickly, so this is a fun rainy-day activity to measure how fast they grow. You can make a life-size portrait for the whole family to color. If you get a big piece of poster board, you can have your child lay down on it. Then you can trace around their body, so you have a template.

Once that is done, everyone can work together to fill in the template and make a life-sized drawing of the family member!

17.  Build a Paper Doll House

Building a dollhouse can be a fun distraction for any little girl on a rainy afternoon. If you search online or at your local library, you can find a template of a paper house. It will have tabs along the edges of the template that you will use to attach the “walls.”  The template can then be cut out and assembled by folding along the lines and gluing the tabs together. Once you print it out or photocopy it, your little girl can help you pick out paper. After that, your child can color the parts.

18.           Play With Marbles

Kids love to play with marbles, and they can get as elaborate or simple as they like. They can craft a little hoop to throw marbles in.

All your child will need are disk magnets, hot glue, and a plastic tub such as a yogurt or margarine container. Simply glue two or three disk magnets to each tube, making sure they are in a straight line down one side. Glue several magnets to one side of the plastic tub. Then put the tubes on a magnetic surface, such as a refrigerator.

19.   Write An “All About Me” Journal

Every child loves to be reminded about the special place he or she holds in your heart. Collect some photos of your grandchild from birth to the present day. Start with the earliest photo and discuss with your favorite little one the events and emotions that surrounded that moment. Children love to hear how excited you are to have them in your life!

20.  Design A T-shirt

If your teen likes to design, t-shirts are a fun way to show their creative side. You can get plain colored T-shirts, fabric paint and permanent markers from Michaels or Joann’s. You can start them with a  catch phrase. And let their imagination fill in the blank area. You might be surprised at what they create.

21.   Make A Picture Book

Now, write a few simple sentences in child-friendly language to caption each photo. When you’ve finished creating the pages, simply punch a hole in the upper left corner of each and tie the pages together. There you have it! A treasured book to last a lifetime. And don’t forget to ask your kids if there is anything that interests them for a rainy-day activity… you just might be surprised.
